- The Increase of Household Internet Use The Series publishes analytical studies and research reports in the broad area of Connectedness. This includes cross-economy activities, such as the penetration and use of the Internet and electronic commerce, as well as industries in the Information and Communications Technologies sector, such as telecommunications, broadcasting and Internet services. It offers a statistical perspective in these emerging phenomena that are transforming the economic and societal landscape.
- Access To and Use of Information Communication Technology Statistics Canada presents a brief overview of the information collected from part of the General Social Survey (GSS), "Access to and Use of Information Communication Technology". The GSS measured the nature and extent of computer and Internet use based on behaviour. Questions were asked about the location of access and use including home, work, school and other public locations. The questionnaire collected additional information on training, the impact of technology on work, children's use of the Internet, e-mail as a communication tool, security and privacy concerns, time displacement, volunteering and civic participation. Socio-demographic variables, including education, income and language, were also measured.

The survey measured eight specific offences: three violent crimes (sexual assault, robbery, and assault), four household crimes (break and enter, motor vehicle/parts theft, theft of household property and vandalism) and theft of personal property. The purpose of this report is to provide an in-depth analysis of the findings of the 1999 General Social Survey and make comparisons to the 1993 GSS results.
- Attitudes Toward the Criminal Justice System, 1999 Data for the report come from Statistics Canada’s 1999 General Social Survey (GSS). This Juristat will examine public attitudes toward the criminal justice system. In particular, it will show how Canadians rate the local police, criminal courts, prison and parole systems, and it will identify some of the factors which may influence a person’s attitudes including their sex, age, level of education, satisfaction with personal safety, and victimization experience.
- Canadian Crime Statistics, 2000 This publication provides a statistical summary of police-reported crime in Canada and the provinces/territories back to 1962. The bulk of the data presented in this publication are taken from the two Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) databases with additional statistics from the Homicide Survey. Included in this publication are the following categories of tables: standard crime tables at the national and provincial/territorial levels; an historical crime table dating back to 1962; a municipal table describing crime in census metropolitan areas (CMAs) with populations over 100,000; and, a set of tables using the Incident-based UCR (UCR2) Survey to describe characteristics of criminal incidents, their victims, and the accused persons. These tables include data on weapon use, the accused-victim relationship, and the age and sex of victims and accused.

These surveys gathered information on the financial characteristics and waste management activities undertaken by companies and local governments and other public waste management bodies.
- Household Spending on Health Care Data on household spending are from Statistics Canada's Family Expenditure Survey for survey years between 1978 and 1996, and from the annual Survey of Household Spending for 1997 and 1998. This article examines changes in household spending on health care between 1978 and 1998. It also provides a detailed look at household spending on health care in 1998.
- Youth Literacy This study used data from the 1994 International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS) to examine the distribution of literacy scores of Canadian adults. The analysis set out a general regression model for explaining variation in adult literacy scores, and used this model to conduct detailed analyses on the effects of schooling and interprovincial differences in the literacy scores of youth.

Bell Island.net Bell Island is in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is the largest of several islands in Conception Bay, measuring about 9 km by 3.5 km. Conception Bay is one of many bays around the Avalon Peninsula at the eastern end of the province. From the province's capital St. John's, the oldest city in North America, it's a 20-minute drive to the ferry terminal at Portugal Cove, then a 20-minute ferry ride to Bell Island.
