| Dr. Douglas May |

Dr. May is a Professor of Economics at Memorial University of Newfoundland with cross-appointments in the Faculty of Business Administration and the Division of Community Health in the Faculty of Medicine. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of York in England, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen's University. Dr. May is a former Head of Department and Past-President of the Atlantic Canada Economics Association. He is currently a director of the John Deutsch Institute for Policy Analysis at Queen's and on the Board of Research Advisors for the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies.

In 1996, Dr. May published a book titled "The Rock in a Hard Place: Atlantic Canada and the UI Trap", along with Alton Hollett of the Newfoundland and Labrador Statistics Agency. His past research efforts have been in the areas of applied production theory, productivity measurement, and business tax incentives as well as the economic impacts of unemployment insurance and social assistance. Current research efforts include a statistical analysis of the determinants of health and alternative measures of poverty with members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Statistics Agency.

Dr. May is an advisor to the Newfoundland and Labrador Statistics Agency and the Executive Council of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. In this capacity, he oversees the content development of the province's Community Accounts.
